NYC: Doughnut Plant
Doughnut Plant. Where any self-respecting foodie must B-Line for.
Yeast Donuts. Cake Donuts. Filled Donuts. The. Best. Donuts. Born from familial tradition dating back to WWI, brought to life by a passionate Grandson in NYC; innovating his techniques, experimenting with original flavour combinations, and using only the best seasonal ingredients (no funny business). Signs of a true artisan.
2 days after having seen them featured on Food Network, (why not 1 you ask? They were closed the day after), I was there. After promptly proceeding to announce my inability to decision make between the 2 I'd seen featured, the kind man behind the counter looked at me and said: "how about you take the Peanut Butter and Jelly, and we'll give you the Coconut Cream, on the house", because I had come in with a smile.
Life. Made.
I kid you not when I tell you these were 2 of the best doughnuts I had ever eaten. Mr PB&J was reminiscent of all those childhood jam filled doughnuts, with the novelty of crunchy American peanut butter, and just the right amount of sophistication in texture and flavour. While Coconut Cream, to my pleasant surprise was not overly sweet, and not under-ly coconut-y. Just perfectly moist and delicious. Yeast Doughnuts, all the way.
I still couldn't pick a winner so please don't make me. But I have decided, that Doughnut Plant, hands down, wins best NYC Doughnut Award. So far...
