This should have been my first TREATS post. But I didn't have the shots. So I went back to New York just for them. Well. Not just for them. But mostly... [ssh don't tell my friends].
May I present to you, the best cookies, in the entire world: Levain Bakery.
My love affair with Levain Bakery shall never wane. I've gone back so many times I can't even remember Levain initiation. To all who’ve heard me, I sound like a broken record after the number of times I have recommended nay insisted – ok borderline forced – friends to go whenever they even mention visiting New York City.
Ok let me explain. Levain Bakery cookies are 4lbs of utter perfection. They pass ALL the cookie tests. 1. Crunchy on the outside, and gooey on the inside. 2. They remain chewy for a day or two after purchase. 3. They are 100% re-heatable in the microwave and taste literally freshly baked thereafter.
WHAT MORE COULD YOU ACTUALLY WANT IN LIFE.
So at the risk of sounding, once more, like a broken record. I beg you. Do yourselves a favour. And b-line for Levain Bakery, W 74th st., Manhattan. Yes, it’s a hike. Yes, it’s worth it. You can even stop at the Natural History Museum if you think cookies aren’t enough of a motivator for the crowd you’re with – though if they aren’t, you should probably re-evaluate why you’re with them in the first place, and definitely contemplate disassociation.
There will most likely be a queue. But it moves quickly. Get at least two: Chocolate Chip Walnut, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. Consume immediately. But they last at least 5 days when you’ve a microwave at hand [if you really must resist].
Can you promise me?
